Mise-en-scene

Image
Mise-en-scene In basic terms, Mise-en-scene is everything you see on-screen. The 5 elements of mise-en-scene include:- Lighting & colour Costume, hair & make-up Location, sets and props Facial expressions and body language Position of characters and objects in the frame Activity = settings and props 1). Costume, Hair & Make-Up Costume, Hair & Make-up act as an instant indicator to a character's personality, status and job.  Costume & Make-up can relate back to a certain time period or they can tell us whether this character is a villain or a hero e.g. a bright coloured cloak for a superhero or a black cloak for a villain. Hair and Make-up can signify certain characters. An example would be The Joker in "Dark Knight", who has red lips and a white face to symbolise a clown. This could also connote that this character is very psychotic and evil. 2). Facial expressions & Body Language Facial expressions provid

Poster Analysis

Image
Poster Analysis Research To create my poster, I researched other images and posters that advertised Doctor Who Series 11. Some of these images included objects and characters such as The TARDIS, The Doctor and the companions. In addition, I used one of my own images of the top of a cliff which would act as the setting of my poster. In consolidation, this would appeal to my target audience of science fiction fans or more particularly Doctor Who fans, as I have used images associated with the show such as a police box, which will give fans a sense of familiarity. Creating my poster After getting inspiration from these images, I designed my poster on paper using text and drawing pictures. Afterwards, using Photoshop, I structured my poster (left) by cutting out certain objects and characters from the pictures I researched and placing them on to the background. After placing the images in position, I added typical conventions of a movie poster such

H/W - Frame & Audio - My Explanation

Image
Frame In the UK, Frames are recorded at 25FPS (frames per second). In each frame, there are two fields. These fields can be interlaced or progressive. When the frames are interlaced, the two fields are scanned one after the other and when the frames are progressive, the two fields are scanned at the same time. Jaggies = Anomalies in displayed images in the frame. Audio A VU (volume unit) meter A PPM (peak programme meter) For a TV programme, this meter would measure 5.5ppm for voice, 3ppm for SFX and 4ppm for Music.

Then, I created the black video and changed the duration to 10 hours.

What is a press release?

Image
About My Press Release! My Press Release! After receiving this assignment, I conducted some research into what a press release is and I looked at examples of different press releases. A press release is a statement given to the press about a breaking news story or about a person. These are two examples of press releases, which are seen to be very concise and bold and use bold colours and logos, which help attract the audience's attention. In creating my press release, I began with a strong quote, "This Is Me". This would help attract my audience and also, it helped me sum up the whole topic of my press release as I'm describing who I am and my character. I made the title a bold colour of blue. Blue has connotations of piece and harmony and being bold can give connotations of happiness so it can heavily emphasize my character. As I am presenting this press release to a group of young people, the language and the way I speak to them was very important when

Media Text Analysis - Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again (Movie Poster)

Image
Media Text Analysis This form of media text is a movie poster, which has the primary purpose of promoting the film using typical codes and conventions. Two examples of codes and conventions include the release date and the display of all the main cast members of the film. The July release date connotes that it is set around summer time and it may attract a bigger audience as many people are on holiday around this time of the year and it can make you feel happy. The advantages of displaying the main cast members of the film will attract fans of these actors so if you are a fan of Meryl Streep or Pierce Brosnan or the singer Cher, it may encourage their fans to go and see the film.  The target audience would be a mix of young & old people. Young people would want to watch to see the sun as it is a summer film and it contains a lot of singing which can make you feel good. Whereas, older people may want to watch because it stars a large number of older, more mature a

JACK PALMER !! "THIS IS ME!" I am faithful to my friends and family but I won't suffer fools. I am very open. I can be quite blunt so I'll tell you how it is and how I feel whether you like it or not but I have a big heart and I am a good friend to have. I am 16 years old. I am currently a full-time student studying for a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media, which allows me to pursue one of my main interests which is film-making, films and TV. This interest has been long-running for me because I studied Media as one of my GCSEs and it was the GCSE I succeeded in the most. I prefer to demonstrate my learning practically in a group rather than theoretically on my own. I believe that this helps me to build relationships with new people and also, it allows me to demonstrate my creative side so for example, in Media, I am able to demonstrate what I've learnt by producing a film. In the future, I desire to pursue this interest as part of my fu

Shot Types & Camera Angles

Image
Shot Types What is a shot and What is cinematography? Shot = A series of frames that runs for an uninterrupted length of time. Cinematography = The art of photography and camerawork in film. Types of Shots Extreme Long Shot (XLS) - A wide view of a complete setting such as a cityscape. This can be used to convey the setting of a scene. Here is an example below. Long Shot (LS) - Closer than XLS but still shows the complete scene. This can show the setting from a closer perspective. A n example of this is in the film ' Skyfall ', where James Bond (Daniel Craig) looks ove r London. Medium Long Shot (MLS) - This shot gives great detail of  about the setting. This gives great detail about setting. Here is an example Medium Shot (MS) - On a human body, it would start at the waist and include a little bit of space above the head. This could be used to show the character's body language and facial expressions.  He

H/W - My role in creating my induction video

During the production of my induction projec t , ' The Umbrella ', I took on two big roles which involved me being both behind and in front of the camera. My first role in the production of my project involved me acting alongside another member of my group. My character is viewed to be very confrontational towards his peer and he takes his umbrella. He realizes that the umbrella is dangerous and it kills him. Later, during post-production, I recorded dialogue for my character as the camera failed to pick up sound. My second role in the production of my project was a part in the post-production process in which I edited the production. Using Adobe Premiere Pro, I decreased the brightness of our camera shots. The use of this programme allowed me to pick the best take of each scene and cut selected scenes down to certain lengths, to create the final product. 'The Umbrella'

Induction

On the first day of induction, I was introduced to two of my tutors, Justin & Luke, who guided us through an introduction to the course. I was given time to socialize with my class by asking them questions about themselves and things that relate to them, which allowed to get to know my peers. I was put into a group with two of my peers and we were sent on a trail around the college, which allowed me to get to know my way around the campus. In the afternoon, I was put into a group with three of my other peers and we were given the task of creating a 1 minute short film about a given object. In our case, we were given a black umbrella. I contributed the idea of the umbrella having enigmatic and supernatural qualities. After devising ideas for the storyline of our short film, we published these ideas in the form of a storyboard, which helped us to structure our trailer. After completing the storyboard, we went out around the campus to collect test shots of the opening shots of our s
